At Beyond Mental Health, we offer a personalized approach to ADHD treatment and support. Stimulants are an important part of ADHD treatment. But stimulants like Adderall and Vyvanse are really just one small piece of the puzzle.
In Dr. Cook’s opinion, people with ADHD must learn to play to their strengths. People with ADHD need to know they do not exactly have a disability, per se. For example, those with ADHD often have strengths— such as memorization by listening— which are well above average.
Additionally, they are often wittier and quicker in conversation. They need to learn to value their quirks, and learn to love their brain the way it is hardwired.
We help those with ADHD overcome academic confidence issues, which usually originate in the early school years, when they performed well beneath their capabilities.
These patients also benefit from dietary consultation. With a diet rich in animal fats, especially DHA, impulsivity is often mitigated. We also have a wealth of knowledge about other supplements— such as huperzine— which reduce inattention.
Again, we do prescribe stimulants, however, they are only a small piece of the puzzle.
